It absolutely flew by, though (yes, I know I am terrible with keeping blog posts and site details up to date...!) I had a blast playing in London (The Troubadour and The Slaughtered Lamb) and Cambridge (Relevant Records) and met lots of wonderful people, got some great feedback and just had a great time sharing my songs with UK audiences. Big thanks goes out, once again, to Little Acorn for booking the shows and linking me up with some wonderful venues and musicians.

(Fast forward!) Things are a little quiet on the Laura K Clarke front for now, but rest assured (as if you're panicking...?) that I'm still around! I'm still singing, I'm still writing, I'm still playing. I'm just doing it all a little quieter than usual :) BUT I do look forward to seeing all your beautiful, smiling faces again sometime soon... Big love!Laura K Clarketag:laurakclarke.com,2005:Post/34814212015-01-23T12:59:04+11:002022-01-05T08:56:45+11:00Love songs and... Umm... Chicken?I have a fabulously talented sister who writes/directs and stars in small theatre shows. Last year she debuted her show "I Like Chicken", which is a tongue-in-cheek comedy inspired by the experience of online dating and the profiles/people you come across in that world.

Said fabulously talented sister asked me if she could feature my song "Love Will Find You" in her show, and I decided we should also write a special song, just for it. We bounced some ideas around and I set to work on creating what would become "These Games". Both these songs feature stories of weird and wonderful dating/love experiences (some of them true stories!) and are a fun, lighthearted look at the world of relationships. They were so much fun to write and continue to be so much fun to play and they get lots of laughs and smiles which I love.

In case you missed either one, here they both are:

Love Will Find You

These Games

Much love... xLaura K Clarketag:laurakclarke.com,2005:Post/2824782013-01-18T07:27:56+11:002021-09-16T05:00:56+10:00"Singers and Musicians are some of the most driven, courageous people on the face of the earth..."Thanks William for sharing this with me!! Now I'm sharing with you all, in case you haven't seen it yet :)

"Singers and Musicians are some of the most driven, courageous people on the face of the earth. They deal with more day-to-day rejection in one year than most people do in a lifetime. Every day, they face the financial challenge of living a freelance lifestyle, the disrespect of people who think they should get real jobs, and their own fear that they'll never work again. Every day, they have to ignore the possibility that the vision they have dedicated their lives to is a pipe dream. With every note, they stretch themselves, emotionally and physically, risking criticism and judgment. With every passing year, many of them watch as the other people their age achieve the predictable milestones of normal life - the car, the family, the house, the nest egg. Why? Because musicians and singers are willing to give their entire lives to a moment - to that melody, that lyric, that chord, or that interpretation that will stir the audience's soul. Singers and Musicians are beings who have tasted life's nectar in that crystal moment when they poured out their creative spirit and touched another's heart. In that instant, they were as close to magic, God, and perfection as anyone could ever be. And in their own hearts, they know that to dedicate oneself to that moment is worth a thousand lifetimes.” - David Ackert, LA Times
Laura K Clarketag:laurakclarke.com,2005:Post/2607932012-12-04T20:57:47+11:002021-09-19T05:06:21+10:00Holidays and rest, finally! But first...Whoever said being a self manged, independant artist was all hard work? Well... Whoever he or she is, they're certainly right!

Okay, so maybe there's some fun and sun and beers in there along the way, but I gotta tell ya, it's tough going. The past couple of years have been non stop and pretty intense for me, getting the EP recorded and out there - I've done 3 tours and a heap of gigs in the past 12 months alone. And yes, I've done it all (mostly) alone! Don't get me wrong, I've met some amazing people and have had amazing support and response to the EP, but it gets pretty damn tiring and lonely. So, I figure, now it's time for a well earned rest. It's officially summer and with the holiday season approaching it's the perfect time of year to take time out, reflect on the year and catch up with friends and family who have been amazingly patient, giving, supportive and totally neglected over the past 12 months!

Of course, it wouldn't be a Melbourne summer without the Boxing Day test cricket at the MCG and, although I have promised myself a break and some rest, it's impossible to say no to playing some tunes in the members bar there throughout the test! (Gigs and music are such an addiction, I'm telling you...!). I'll be back at the MCG on December 26th, 27th and 28th, presumably in the Hugh Trumble Cafe Courtyard, same as last year. Keep an eye out and come and say hi!

Otherwise... Here's to love, summer, sunshine, holidays and hugs - I'm off now to seek out and enjoy as much of all of these things as I can!

Until next time... xo
Laura K Clarketag:laurakclarke.com,2005:Post/2107212012-09-08T02:02:29+10:002021-09-16T06:28:29+10:00MCG Footy Finals, Festivals & East Coast Tour!
"Do one thing every day that scares you"

Hi everyone!

Well, I have hosted just about every cold and flu that’s been floating around over the last few months, so lots of down time means there is now lots to catch up on... Starting with filling you all in! (Basically, all you’ve missed is buckets full of snotty tissues, so lets forget what’s passed and skip straight to what’s coming up…!)

MCG – Footy Finals
The footy finals are upon us and I am thrilled to confirm that I will be back at the MCG as part of their finals entertainment (starting tonight – GO HAWKS!!!). I’ll be in the Frank Grey Smith bar, playing tunes before and after all games – MCC members come and say hi!

Festivals
I’ll be playing at this years Anglesea Music Festival which runs Oct 12th – 14th, sharing the bill with Ross Wilson (Daddy Cool/Mondo Rock), Nicky Bomba, The Stillsons and a whole host of other talented folk. Also, I’m excited and very luck to be part of the Little Buckley Gathering once again this year. It’s a small and intimate festival in Buckley from Oct 26th – Oct 28th. Buckley is about an hour past Geelong. Further details on both festivals via links on the Gigs & Tours page. I’ve also applied for a bunch of other festivals over summer, so keep an eye out for (fingers crossed) further festival announcements!

East Coast Tour
Yep! I’ll be heading up the East Coast again, during the first 2 weeks of November, with gigs in/around Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney (and maybe more to come). I’ll send full details closer to tour time, but will be updating info on my website, so you can keep an eye on Gigs & Tours too.

Next Melbourne Gig
My next Melbourne gig is at The Great Britain (Richmond), on Thursday, October 4th, supporting Kelly Breuer and her band, who are visiting from Adelaide. It should be a fun night (and I think I might just about have 1 or 2 new songs finished by then, shhhh!). Again, more info at Gigs & Tours!

Okay, that’s enough babble from me for now... I hope you all are well and hope to see you at a gig soon!

Big hugs
Hey, look at that – I’ve started! Okay, so that’s that out the way…

Now, where were we… ? Oh yes, the tour! What an amazing time I had!! I actually enjoyed driving around the countryside on my own and I dare say there might be a song or two born from all those hours spent inside my own head…
All the shows were fantastic, a great response everywhere and sold a good number of CD’s, so hopefully word is spreading. Favourite show of the tour…? The Wheatsheaf in Adelaide! Great crowd, great space and yummy, yummy pizza from Leighs Deli, across the road.
I’m already looking at another east coast tour, hoping for November, because… Well, why not?! (Yeah, this could get addictive!)

I had a couple of really fantastic ‘welcome home’ shows too – The Prince Bandroom with ‘Wexford’ & ‘The Sons of May’ was a really fun night, as were the two shows I had at The Empress, with ‘Eran James’ & ‘Anthony Ousback’ (NSW) and ‘Emmy Bryce’ & ‘Kelly Breuer’ (SA).

I’m joining forces with my old pal and super soul sister, ‘Kerryn Fields’, on August 26th for a bit of a special reunion type show at The Great Britain Hotel in Richmond. It’ll be almost a year since we have shared a show! Here’s the facebook invite with all the info

I’m looking at some festivals during the summer months at the moment, and will also get back into booking some more local gigs in the next few months.

Never a dull moment and very happy that you’re along for the ride!

Big thanks and hugs…

x

Laura K Clarketag:laurakclarke.com,2005:Post/1749562012-06-05T23:46:52+10:002012-06-05T23:46:52+10:00The tour so far...Wow, I am really loving being on the road!! It's been so amazing to find some cool new venues, connect with some really great people (and fellow musicians) and catch up with a bunch of friends and family along the way.

Song Summit in Sydney was just amazing and so, so inspiring. I was busting to play some tunes by the time I got to Brisbane and the first gig was really fun and well received.

"Brew" in the city centre is a hidden gem with amazing food and coffee and, now, live music on Thursday's. The night started really well - I slipped over and fell on my butt whist making my way on to stage for sound check. I knocked over some poor guys beer and probably still have a bruise, but once I'd got all that out the way, it was a great night! Haha.

The Sugar Deli, in Scarborough, kindly hosted me for the Friday and Saturday nights and I just LOVED it there. The food is amazing, the folk are lovely and there is a warm open fire for the rainy winter days up here. The crowd was great and the shows were really well received.

Played at The Cave in Nobby's Beach on the Gold Coast last night and again, lovely crowd and awesome folk that run around making sure it's a great night (special mention to Mel who looks after the music, she's just beautiful!)

I'll be getting out of my PJ's soon I think (seeings how it's passed midday and the sun is actually out today!). I'm playing in Palm Beach tonight and I think I'll head there early and pick me up a Ukelele :) I saw one in a music shop there last time I passed through and... well, everyone needs a Uke these days, right?! I can't wait to have a new toy, woo hoo!!

So... So far, no complaints at all! I've sold some CD's, got some new names on the email list and met some really great people and seen some amazing music. It's a little bit sad to officially be on the 'home stretch' of the trip, but I have to admit, I am looking forward to getting home to my own bed/shower/room and catching up with everyone for hugs and beers or cups of tea!!!

Right then... Back to it!!

She’s celebrating with a launch gig on Friday, April 27th at The Empress Hotel in Fitzroy North and giving a free copy of the CD to all those who come along!

Laura spent the majority of 2011 working on the recording and production of this EP, during which time she also played live with some of Australia’s finest talents. Laura played support shows for ARIA award winner Monique Brumby and blues sensation Ray Beadle, as well as sharing festival bills with the likes of BONJAH and Lloyd Spiegel. She also traveled to Sydney and Brisbane for shows and is currently planning a full Australian tour for June.

“Looking For Inspiration” was produced by momo, who also features on the track ‘On My Mind’, a clear favourite amongst regular gig goers. One half of local hip hop outfit ‘Diafrix’, momo has had a busy 12 months. They (Diafrix) toured with Bruno Mars and George Clinton and performed at some of the world’s highest profile festivals, including Big Day Out (Australia wide) and Glastonbury Festival in the UK. “Simple Man”, a recent single from Diafrix, also features Daniel Merriweather. momo makes a special guest appearance at the launch.

Dean Matters joins Laura on drums, live at the launch gig, as well as featuring on two of the recorded tracks. Dean toured as drummer for Eran James, supporting Elton John on his recent Australian tour, and also plays regularly with Andrea Marr Band. Dean also works as a session musician for various artists, including Melbourne favourite Geoff Achison.

Tim Wild will also feature, on Keys and Guitar, in Laura’s live band. Tim is a key member of ARIA award winning group taxiride, who had huge success in the late 90’s with their album ‘Imaginate’ which went double platinum and spawned two top 10 hits for the band.

The recorded tracks also feature the talents of session musicians Damian Smith (M-Phazes), Mikey Chan (Direct Influence, Candice Monique) and Pete Robinson (Russell Morris, Electric Mary).

Laura launched the first single "Do What You Say", to a sold out crowd in September 2011, at the Wesley Anne in Northcote and with support sets from Shane Walters and Al Parkinson, the EP launch gig is looking set to be a fun and special night".

Laura K Clarketag:laurakclarke.com,2005:Post/1455572012-03-06T08:51:48+11:002012-03-06T08:51:48+11:00New CD and Aussie Tour, just around the corner! So… The CD launch is booked, yay!! It’s all happening on Friday, April 27th at The Empress Hotel in Fitzroy North and I have some amazing people getting involved. Keep an eye on the Gigs and Tours page of my website for updated info.

I’m also busy planning the official tour, which so far includes Brisbane, Gold Coast and Adelaide through the early part of June. I’ll be spending a long weekend in Sydney too, but I’ll be busy with Song Summit there so I’m not sure I’ll squeeze any gigs in. Then again, you never know – keep an eye on the gigs page!

The short road trip I did up to Brissy with my sister in February was awesome! I played the most amazing open mic night at The Buddha Brewery in Byron Bay (I wish all open mic nights were like that!) and the awesome Megaherzzz crew at 4zzz fm in Brisbane, let me in and onto their airwaves with an interview and live to air. I also played the most amazing gig – The Round – at Dowse bar in Paddington with two most stunning ladies – Jen Mize and Abby Skye. Check them out, they’re wonderful!

What else..? I’m heading off to Aireys inlet next weekend to play a wee music festival on Saturday 17th March, should be a nice night.

Other than that, I am keeping busy with CD launch and tour stuffs – never a dull moment!!

Hope you are all keeping busy and seeing lots of sunshine… x
Laura K Clarketag:laurakclarke.com,2005:Post/1361862012-01-27T12:57:48+11:002012-01-27T12:57:48+11:00Brisbane bound! That's right, I'm Brisbane bound next month! My clever, clever sis got into QU, so I'm road tripping up the coast and staying a week in Brissy while she settles in. Of course I couldn't resist the temptation to check out some Brisbane venues and happenings, so I have booked in a gig for Wednesday, 22nd Feb, a night called "The Round" in Paddington. Also currently trying my luck with landing a little spot of some sort on their fabulous local radio station, 4zzz.
Looking forward to hitting the road and checking out some musical stuffs in Brisbane and along the way. If you have friends up north, tell them I'm coming!!!
Nevertheless, it is here today and I am LOVING it!! Bring on summer - sunshine, music festivals, awesome gigs, beach buddies, suntan lotion, all the good fruits in season, skirts and flip flops... Ahhhh yeah. You get the idea!
What else....? I got through lots of mixing last week - just trying to lock in a session drummer to get the finishing touches on 2 tracks and I am well on the way to meeting my deadline of mixing and mastering the whole EP before the year is out. I'll be putting some sneak previews up very soon, stay tuned!
I've also just booked some Sydney and outter suburbs gigs supporting the amazingly talented Ray Beadle. Weekend of December 9-11, they should be great shows and all the info is on my gigs and tours page, check it out! If you are in town or have friends in town, please come along or send people in your place to say hello.
I had the pleasure of playing alongside Monique Brumby again last weekend too. Mon graced the Play Like a Girl stage and, as always, I felt lucky to share a stage with her and her beautiful music.
Don't forget November local (Melbourne) gigs coming up so so so so soon!! I think that's all for now - I'm gonna get outta here and get out into that beautiful sunshine while it lasts! What are you all up to? Whatever it is, I hope enjoy it....
I know it seems as though I have "fallen off the planet" a little since my single launch, but never fear - I am still running around like a crazed idiot and keeping way too busy! I've been occupying my time with really, super fun stuff like... Sorting out my tax and receipts so I can actually finally lodge my tax return (cross your fingers for me!).
But... On a seriously exciting note... I did manage to finally get back into the studio with Mo and finish off some editing and I have booked in my next mixing session with the Marvellous Mike at raretone for next week. So the good news is that the EP is well on track for it's Feb/March release. Yay!

I've also been busy booking some exciting gigs, including a night with the wonderfully talented Francesca de Valence from Brisbane, who I just adore. Come along and say hi to us on November 24th at the Wesley Anne. We'll have a comrade in Damian Rogers for the night, too.

I'm also lucky enough to be supporting Eran James in his final headlining show for 2011, after which he supports Elton John in his oudoor December gigs. (So... I guess that makes me the chick that is supporting the guy that is supporting Elton John... I can live with that!) Sunday November 27 at Gertrudes brown couch.

Last and definitely not least, I am really excited to be playing a Melbourne show with Sydney based blues extraordinaire Ray Beadle. If you are yet to check out one of Rays shows... Well, all I am going to say is you are MISSING OUT! Come along to this one, why not - Sunday, December 4th at the Caravan Music Club in Oakeigh.

There are also whispers of some Sydney shows for me in December, but it's all just whispers and rumours at this stage, so keep that under your hat... And keep your hat on!

Alrighty then - I'm off to the tax man! Hope you all are doing something way more exciting....!

Peace xo

Laura K Clarketag:laurakclarke.com,2005:Post/1151122011-09-20T10:51:34+10:002011-09-20T10:51:34+10:00Wow and THANKS!Wow, wow, wow!!! The single launch was AMAZING! The Wesley Anne band room SOLD OUT and all of you who came along were just amazing, thank you all so much again!
Kerryn Fields and Tom Carty were such wonderful supports and my band (Dean Matters, Steve Hornby and Mikey Chan) all played wonderfully. Dan and Ben truly looked after us on sound, I honestly couldn't have asked for more :-)
I let my hair down on Saturday night and today (Tuesday) is the first chance I've had to really relax and reflect back on the gig. I keep waiting to crash from the high of it all, but so far still floating and feeling really amazed by it all! Youtube videos and photos galore are coming soon!!

In other news, I'm back into the AFL finals games this weekend. Friday night and Saturday I'll be playing a set pre-match and then 2 sets post match in the MCC Members Frank Grey Smith Bar. MCC members come and say hello!

A few other gigs scattered through October and I'm really looking forward to some writing and guitaring time soon too!

I recorded vocals last week, which is always a little daunting but was lots of fun, and we had the awesome and smiley Damian Vincenzi in for a while snapping pics. The months of 2011 seem to be rapidly escaping me and I do realise it's been a while (too long!) since I shared any news with you all. It may seem as though things have been quiet on the Laura K Clarke front over the last few months, but let me assure you that, behind the scenes, this is not at all the case!

I've been busy in the studio working on a new 5 track EP which looks set to be finished around July this year and released, hopefully, shortly thereafter! I've also managed to do some writing and I'm actually recording a brand new song on this EP (very few people have heard it, I've not played it at any gigs and I'm intending on saving it up for the launch!). It's called "Alright".

I've been really enjoying the process this time around and feel so lucky to be working with an amazing producer in MC Momo (Diafrix). We have also captured the amazing musical talents of Mikey Chan and Damian Smith, look them up! There's still a lot of work to be done (including my tough job of vocal recording), but the tracks are sounding amazing and I am truly excited about getting to share this with you all :-)
Laura K Clarke
