"Over 2 years in the making, Laura K Clarke is finally ready to release her debut, 5 track EP “Looking For Inspiration”. She’s celebrating with a launch gig on Friday, April 27th at The Empress Hotel in Fitzroy North and giving a free copy of the CD to all those who come along!
Laura spent the majority of 2011 working on the recording and production of this EP, during which time she also played live with some of Australia’s finest talents. Laura played support shows for ARIA award winner Monique Brumby and blues sensation Ray Beadle, as well as sharing festival bills with the likes of BONJAH and Lloyd Spiegel. She also traveled to Sydney and Brisbane for shows and is currently planning a full Australian tour for June.
“Looking For Inspiration” was produced by momo, who also features on the track ‘On My Mind’, a clear favourite amongst regular gig goers. One half of local hip hop outfit ‘Diafrix’, momo has had a busy 12 months. They (Diafrix) toured with Bruno Mars and George Clinton and performed at some of the world’s highest profile festivals, including Big Day Out (Australia wide) and Glastonbury Festival in the UK. “Simple Man”, a recent single from Diafrix, also features Daniel Merriweather. momo makes a special guest appearance at the launch.
Dean Matters joins Laura on drums, live at the launch gig, as well as featuring on two of the recorded tracks. Dean toured as drummer for Eran James, supporting Elton John on his recent Australian tour, and also plays regularly with Andrea Marr Band. Dean also works as a session musician for various artists, including Melbourne favourite Geoff Achison.
Tim Wild will also feature, on Keys and Guitar, in Laura’s live band. Tim is a key member of ARIA award winning group taxiride, who had huge success in the late 90’s with their album ‘Imaginate’ which went double platinum and spawned two top 10 hits for the band.
The recorded tracks also feature the talents of session musicians Damian Smith (M-Phazes), Mikey Chan (Direct Influence, Candice Monique) and Pete Robinson (Russell Morris, Electric Mary).
Laura launched the first single "Do What You Say", to a sold out crowd in September 2011, at the Wesley Anne in Northcote and with support sets from Shane Walters and Al Parkinson, the EP launch gig is looking set to be a fun and special night".
